Collection

Collection with timing of the spurs in riding downhill

And today about ascents and descents (mainly descents)
on a dirt path or on a road..
Notice that on a dirt path, you can sit balanced
and collect the horse deeply (depending on the angle of the descent) with the lifting of his back through touches with the spurs while collecting his head..
This position will cause him to bring the pelvis deeply under himself and give excellent braking ability..
There is no need to push the legs forward and lean back — which makes braking harder for him, except when going over a step in a descent (there it is essential to lean back and push the legs forward..)
But…
This position will be deadly if it is on an asphalt road
or on a harder surface like a concrete road (which is especially deadly..). even with tungsten nails.. or barium.
In a descent or ascent on a concrete road or a paved road.. the chances of a dangerous slip rise greatly..
and therefore we will not ride on such roads.
In a descent on an asphalt road, — we will not collect the horse at all, or only to a small degree..
Collection — will make the descent dangerous because it makes the horse bring the pelvis deeply underneath him
and “helps him” slip easily on the asphalt…

The use of collection for reverse

And this time, about the importance of collection when we come to lead the horse backward, notice that the collection, whose outcome is shifting the weight backward, is possible only thanks to the lifting of the horse’s back, which “makes room” and allows the neck to arch and the horse’s pelvis to come under the horse, provided there is movement.. consider your horses, and try to create collection in order to achieve better backward movement and more comfortable for the horse.

Demonstration of Collection (from the ground)

Demonstration of the concept of collection.
Notice, this demonstration will explain to you in detail this concept, why we need it and how it is activated when we lift the horse’s back in order to create flexing in the neck and engagement of the hindquarters (in forward or backward movement) to shift weight backwards.
Collection is extremely important for the safety of every rider, especially the trail rider.
For speed control, downhill riding, difficult passages, in reverse (see the special video on this), for the rider’s carrying ability, coping with fears (I will make another video about this), an easy, comfortable and safe “steering wheel”… and more.

Collection Technique

Hello friends, this is Ori Peleg,
Uripeleg.org  and this time a video about: how to begin collection.
There are dozens of aids, special reins, various martingales that are meant for this task.
I have already worked a little with this horse… and the continuation of the work will be in movement, with a special timing:
Every time the horse’s shoulder moves toward us while riding — we add a touch with the spur tip to lift the back at the moment the hind leg on that same side comes up.
I highly recommend preparing the horse for this topic the long way — in lunging…
Thank you to Hillel who filmed.
